Meet Karly Seyfried, LLMSW
Therapist | Specializing in Adolescent & Young Adult Mental Health
As a dedicated mental health therapist at The Healing Approach, I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions.
With a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach, I’m passionate about helping young people feel seen, supported, and empowered in every stage of their healing journey.
Since beginning clinical work in 2021, I’ve provided community-based therapy to youth and families across Livingston County through Community Mental Health in Howell.
My experience working closely with clients in their homes and schools has given me a deep understanding of the complex challenges teens and families face today, and how to meet them where they are on their individual journey.
I’m trained in several leading therapeutic modalities, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused CBT), and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
Each session is tailored to the individual needs of my clients, offering practical tools and emotional support to help you build resilience, improve emotional regulation, and gain confidence in their ability to cope with life’s challenges.
I’m currently accepting new clients for therapy appointments in-person and virtually, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We currently accept BCBS of MI, Anthem, Aetna, Molina, McLaren, Meridian, and Cigna insurance.
Available Now: EMDR Therapy for Children, Teens, & Young Adults!
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a gentle, evidence-based therapy that helps young people heal from trauma, anxiety, and overwhelming experiences. Through guided eye movements and structured support, EMDR helps the brain "reprocess" difficult memories, reducing emotional distress and building resilience.
Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, grief, bullying, or past trauma, EMDR can be a powerful path toward emotional healing and growth.
Karly is currently accepting new clients for EMDR therapy appointments, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Get to know Karly
What is something you wish more clients knew prior to beginning therapy?
Therapy is a collaborative process that extends beyond the therapy room. I can offer insight, tools, and guidance — but meaningful change happens when those skills are consistently practiced in daily life. Growth can feel uncomfortable at first, much like learning to ride a bike. It may feel unsteady and unfamiliar in the beginning, but with repetition and patience, confidence and resilience naturally build.
How would you describe your therapeutic style in a few words?
Client-centered, collaborative, and attuned. My priority is to meet you where you are and create a space that feels safe, supportive, and aligned with your current needs. This is your time, and we will use it intentionally to best support your goals and personal growth.
What are some quotes that guide your work?
“The sun will rise and we will try again.”
“Little by little, a little becomes a lot.”
“You don’t have to see the whole staircase; you just have to take the first step.”
These reminders ground my work in hope, consistency, and the power of incremental progress.
How do you recharge?
I prioritize mindfulness practices such as meditation and yoga to remain grounded and present. I also enjoy listening to audiobooks and spending time playing with my dogs — simple moments that help restore balance and perspective.
What inspires you?
I am deeply inspired by resilience — both in my clients and within myself. The courage it takes to face difficult situations, sit with discomfort, and continue moving forward is something I hold great respect for. Witnessing and embodying that perseverance fuels my passion for this work.
At the heart of Karly’s work is a deep belief that therapy should be a safe space, where individuals are met with empathy, professionalism, and evidence-based care.
Whether it’s a teen struggling with school-related stress, a young adult facing overwhelming emotions, or a parent seeking guidance for their child, Karly works collaboratively to create a path forward that feels both manageable and meaningful.
